I have had an opportunity to read friend M’s post about this question in Beijinger.
According to M’s questions, here are the process:
1. Capital: (will show on license)
According to Chinese law, to register a restaurant in Beijing, the minimal capital is 30,000 RMB.
(most Chinese owners register in 100k RMB)
2. Requirment:
a. at least 2 Stock Shares,
all stock shares should be Chinese, if one of them is foreigner, this company will become a joint-venture company.
b. Restaurant name and address,
first thing of registration is to verify the name of restaurant, and will need restaurant’s address in this step.
which means you have to rent the store about a month earlier than you get license.
(Same as register any kind of company in China.)
c. After step B, you will need to open a bank account with new restaurant name, and put money equals capital in it, then you will get many documents to fill, and take about 1 month to wait, then will get “company license”, but not “restaurant license”.
(This is how much money you should put in a bank account before get a license)
d. After step C, you will still need to register about 5 different licenses in different places, if I may suggest, it’s better to hire a register assist company to register it for you. It usually cost around 1~2k RMB to register a Chinese company, 8~10k RMB to register a foreign or joint-venture company.
The most big problem to open a restaurant in China is the Fire Equipments Certificate, because, The Industrial and Commercial Bureau will only give you “restaurant license” after you passed this certification.
Problem is they will only check your fire equipments after all your decoration has complete, that they can know are they safety enough. If they think it’s not safety enough, you will need to redecorate everything around your fire equipment. Yes, it’s true, they will only give you the “restaurant license” after fire equipment certification.
Generally, a register assist company will suggest you to register a “restaurant manage company” first, and change your license to a “restaurant company” after you passed fire equipment check.
